Back to Genova!
We appeal to all the people who were in Genova the days 19th, 20th and 21st of july 2001.
We are speaking to all who everyday fight against war, precarity, the waste of the territory and of the collective goods.
To all those that struggle in the universities, in the workplaces and in the neighbourhoods against exploitation.
To who fights against the centres of detention for migrants.
To who has never given up the dream of a different world.
The Public Prosecutors Canepa and Canciani have asked 224 years’ inprisonment for 25 people who are guilty only of having been in Genova to contest the G8 in those days. This request clearly shows what kind of justice they are trying to impose. The one that always acquits the power for its crimes, and hits who dares to rebel and disobey with violence, jail and murder, as in the case of Carlo Giuliani.
This shameful request is simply unacceptable. The actual aim of this trail is to rewrite the history, distorting it, because it is a trouble for the power.
Our history talks about the courage to face all together the potentates of the G8 that decide wars and massacres. It talks about disobedience against unfair laws, against the prohibition to express dissent, as when Genova had been transformed in a huge militarized zone without democracy.
This history, that the public procesors would like to bury with two centuries’ imprisonment, talks about the police that tortures in Bolzaneto, charges and the beats up in the streets, massacres in the school Diaz.

Call Out – We, the people of Tolemaide Street!

The call out that follows was made public Saturday, October 20th in Genoa, at the Zingari Theater of the San Benedetto al Porto Community, during a public meeting with Porota and Cela delle Madri di Plaza de Majo.

Its true. There’s a story of struggle, of social movements, of people, and a story of power. There is no doubt about this, and Genoa confirms it. History is often written by the courts. The Public Ministers who have accused 25 demonstrators of devastation and pillaging and who keep, for now, hundreds of open cases against just as many participants in the demonstrations against the G8 in their desks, synthesizing the prosecutor’s practices well. Rewriting, modifying, twisting that which happened attempting to change not only the sense, but also to remove those anomalies that represent a tangible sign of the crisis of a system. Rewriting history for their own use and consume, in fact, isn’t merely an old vice of those who command: it’s also the measurement of how much this democracy in profound and irreversible crisis in its every articulation, has the necessity of artificially creating around itself that legitimization that no longer exists. The deafening words, chosen with care by this or that state servant, pronounced in the Court halls, should cover that which hundreds of thousands of people lived, and that millions already know. Those words will become official history when they’re written black on white at the bottom to condemn to years of prison who had the misfortune of having been chosen as a scape goat, and the fault of having been in Genoa on the 19th, 20th, and 21st of July to protest the G8.

The archiving of the homicide of Carlo Giuliani was the first chapter of the story of Genoa, written by the power of the courts. [ continue ]

We make our call out to all, individuals and collectives, to construct the initiatives that are necessary together with us. So all the activists on trail in Genoa are free, so the history of power is not an obstacle everyone’s path, those that were and those that will be, towards liberty. With Carlo in our hearts.
